Rs. 75 Coin : Celebrating the Inauguration of the New Parliament Building

The Central Government has announced the minting of a commemorative Rs. 75 coin to mark the inauguration of the new Parliament building. The official notification was issued on May 25, just days before the scheduled inauguration ceremony on May 28.

How it looks: it features the iconic Lion Capital of Ashoka Pillar on the obverse side, with the inscription of 'Satyamev Jayate' in Devnagri script below it. The reverse side showcases an image of the Parliament complex along with the words 'Sansad Sankul' in Devnagri script.

Not Intended for General Circulation: It's important to note that commemorative coins, including the Rs. 75 coin, are not meant for regular transactions. Their metallic value often exceeds their legal value, and they are primarily issued to commemorate special events and serve as collectibles.

How to Obtain the Commemorative Coin: Those interested in acquiring the special coin can visit the website of the Securities of Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL), where it will be made available. Remember that these coins hold significant value for coin collectors and are not intended for day-to-day transactions.

Legal Tender and Coin Acceptance: According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), coins issued by the government under the Coinage Act, 2011, are considered legal tender, provided they are not defaced or have not lost weight beyond prescribed limits. Coins with denominations equal to or higher than one rupee are legal tender for amounts up to one thousand rupees.
